The Library of the University of Applied Sciences of the Grisons (UAS) offers various services to promote information literacy, which are available to all members of the university as well as to external parties. The offerings focus on the library use, the use of databases and electronic plattforms, as well as on developing both basic and advanced research skills.

Depending on the context, the Library can also provide further support in academic work. The aim is to offer students and staff audience specific assistance related to the search, acquisition, and processing of sources, thereby supporting them effectively through the various phases of their studies, teaching or research activities.

The training services cover the following main topics, which are delivered at varying levels of complexity, tailored to the target group:

1: Library Services
2: Research Strategies
3: Research Tools
4: Source evaluation & organization

Trainings for students

In general, training sessions for students covering topics such as research strategies, research tools, and source evaluation & organization are integrated into regular courses. The involvement of one of the library team’s information specialists is usually embedded within the course content, during the preparation of a first academic paper, during the kick-off phase of a bachelor’s or master’s thesis but also during a topic specific block week). We are happy to define the training goals together and are available via email for questions regarding the organisation of such training sessions.

In some cases, it is also possible to book training sessions outside of regular courses. For example, a whole class preparing to write their theses may need a refresher on topics such as source searching, acquisition, and processing. We are happy to provide information about this option via email.

Trainings for staff

For UAS staff, an internal training course titled “Tailored Information Research” is offered. The goal is to learn or refresh skills on how to efficiently locate media or fulltexts from cited references. Participants will develop research strategies for thematic searches and utilize both general and subject-specific access points for various types of literature and information. Interested individuals can contact the Research & Development department.

In addition, UAS staff can receive a personal Book a Librarian consultation on specific questions related to research, reference management or citation. Appointments for Book a Librarian can be made with Calendly.

Training for External Users

Training sessions for external (educational-) institutions from the region are possible and can be requested via email to the FHGR Library. The FHGR Library reserves itself the right to evaluate each request individually and will decide based on the availability of the library team. The following topics may be covered in external trainings: research strategies, research tools, and source evaluation & organization. Please note that external users do not have the same level of access to the library services (databases, platforms, and tools...) as UAS members.
